Viuda Negra Las Levantadas 2024 is a fresh and expressive white Rioja from the dynamic Rioja Alavesa project led by winemaker Javier San Pedro Ortega. The wine takes its name from las levantadas, the higher and more exposed vineyard parcels where white varieties were historically planted to benefit from cooler conditions and greater freshness.

Crafted from a blend of traditional Rioja white grapes including Viura, Malvasía, and Tempranillo Blanco, the wine reflects both the region’s heritage and a modern approach to winemaking that emphasizes purity, balance, and vibrant character.

In the glass, Las Levantadas shows a bright straw-yellow colour with lifted aromatics. The nose reveals crisp orchard fruit such as pear and green apple, layered with citrus zest, white flowers, and subtle hints of stone fruit.

On the palate, the wine is lively and beautifully balanced. Fresh acidity carries flavours of citrus, apple, and delicate floral notes, while a short period of lees ageing adds a gentle roundness and texture without masking the wine’s natural freshness.

The finish is clean, elegant, and refreshing, making this a wonderfully versatile white at the table.

Viuda Negra Las Levantadas pairs beautifully with grilled fish, seafood, paella, light salads, and tapas. It also works wonderfully as an aperitif, offering a bright and modern expression of white Rioja that is both approachable and refined.
