A true Spanish Christmas classic, Turrón de Jijona is the wonderfully soft, creamy counterpart to the crunchy turrón of Alicante. Made by AntiuXixona in Jijona (Xixona), Alicante—the historic heartland of Spanish turrón—this traditional sweet is all about the rich, unmistakable flavour of toasted almonds.

Unlike hard turrón, Jijona is made by finely grinding toasted almonds together with honey and sugar until they release their natural oils, creating its characteristic soft, almost melt-in-the-mouth texture. The result is intensely nutty and aromatic, with the sweetness of honey balancing the deep roasted flavour of the almonds.

This turrón carries the Jijona DOP (Protected Designation of Origin), which protects both its geographical origin and its traditional method of production. Genuine Turrón de Jijona must be produced within the designated area around Jijona in Alicante and meet the standards established for this celebrated Spanish confection.

AntiuXixona is one of the best-known names associated with traditional turrón production in Jijona, continuing a confectionery tradition that has made this small Alicante town synonymous with turrón throughout Spain.

Traditionally enjoyed during Christmas and the festive season, Turrón de Jijona is served simply: cut into small pieces and shared after a meal alongside coffee, cava, sweet wine or a glass of brandy. Its rich almond flavour also makes it excellent crumbled over ice cream or incorporated into desserts.

The 250 g bag holds twelve individually wrapped portions across four beloved flavours: soft Jijona almond nougat, crunchy Alicante almond nougat, toasted egg yolk and crunchy chocolate. It is an invitation to compare textures and find a favourite, from the mellow richness of Jijona to the crisp bite of Alicante. Set the bag out after dinner or slip a few pieces into a festive gift.

Serve the minis on a small platter with espresso, fresh clementines and toasted almonds. Because each piece is individually wrapped, the assortment is particularly easy to share at a gathering, offer with coffee after a meal or add to a holiday hamper. For a dessert board, mix the four varieties with dark chocolate, dried figs and slices of pear. A warm cup of chocolate on a cold evening makes another lovely companion.

Serving & pairing

Try a small glass of Moscatel with the almond flavours, or a dry Pedro Ximénez Sherry poured sparingly with the chocolate and toasted yolk pieces. For a less sweet contrast, choose espresso or unsweetened black tea. There is pleasure in tasting one of each in turn: the changes in texture bring as much interest as the flavours themselves.
