Los Peperetes Mussels in Marinade (Mejillones en escabeche) are a shining example of Galicia’s rich conserva tradition—plump, flavourful mussels from the Rías Gallegas, expertly preserved in a zesty, well-balanced escabeche marinade. These aren’t your everyday mussels; they’re a delicacy, carefully selected for size and quality, then hand-packed to preserve both their texture and their natural character.

Harvested from the cold, clean waters of north-west Spain, the mussels are steamed open before being gently bathed in a house-made escabeche—a classic Spanish marinade of olive oil, wine vinegar, paprika, garlic, and bay leaf. The result is a rich, tangy, slightly smoky dressing that enhances the sweetness of the mussels without overpowering them. Each bite is tender, juicy, and deeply satisfying.

What truly sets Los Peperetes apart is their artisanal approach: every tin is prepared in small batches, with great attention to detail and a commitment to preserving traditional Galician methods. It’s this dedication to quality that has earned the brand numerous awards over the years, and their mussels are consistently praised as some of the best tinned seafood available.

Enjoy these straight from the tin with a few slices of crusty bread to mop up the marinade, or serve as part of a tapas spread alongside olives, cured meats, and Spanish cheeses. They’re also brilliant tossed into a simple salad or served on warm potatoes with a drizzle of the escabeche.

Elegant yet robust, Los Peperetes Mussels in Marinade are a must-try for anyone looking to explore the world of premium conservas. Whether you’re new to Spanish tinned seafood or already a devoted fan, this tin delivers big flavour, beautiful craftsmanship, and a taste of the Galician coast in every bite.

A classic Spanish conserva that delivers plenty of flavour without the premium price tag. Bogar packs 12–16 tender mussels into each tin and covers them in a traditional escabeche-style marinade made with sunflower oil, vinegar, wine and bay leaf.

The mussels are plump and meaty, while the marinade brings the characteristic balance of tangy acidity, savoury depth and gentle spice that makes Spanish mussels in escabeche so addictive. The vinegar cuts through the natural richness of the mussels, while the wine and bay leaf round everything out with a more aromatic finish.

These are completely ready to eat and are excellent served straight from the tin at room temperature. For a classic Spanish-style tapa, pile the mussels onto good-quality potato chips and spoon a little of the escabeche over the top. Alternatively, serve them with crusty bread to soak up the marinade, alongside olives and other conservas, or over warm potatoes for an easy lunch.

Don't throw away the liquid in the tin — the escabeche is part of the experience. Spoon it over the mussels and bread, or whisk it vigorously to create a thicker, emulsified dressing.

An approachable introduction to Spanish tinned mussels and a particularly good choice for anyone looking for an everyday conserva with excellent flavour and versatility.

They only use mussels of the species (Mytilus galloprovincialis). These are cultivated on rafts, floating platforms from which ropes hang submerged in the water to which the mussels adhere.

Our estuaries are the world's main source of this mollusk, where they have the best food and grow to a larger size.

For this specific format, we use large specimens taken from the best-located rafts in our estuaries, cleaned and canned by hand one by one.

Once selected, fried in olive oil and lovingly hand-packed, one by one, they are covered with our marinade made with natural ingredients such as natural paprika, black pepper, cloves and bay leaves.
