Algueira Mencía de Amandi is one of the finest expressions of Galicia's spectacular Ribeira Sacra wine region, where vineyards cling dramatically to steep slate terraces overlooking the Sil River. Produced by Bodegas Algueira, a pioneering family winery dedicated to preserving the region's centuries-old tradition of heroic viticulture, this elegant red is made predominantly from the indigenous Mencía grape. Deep ruby red in colour, Algueira Mencía opens with an expressive bouquet of ripe red cherries, wild raspberries and blackberries, layered with delicate floral aromas of violets and subtle hints of fresh herbs, liquorice and cracked black pepper. As the wine opens, notes of graphite, wet slate and gentle spice emerge, reflecting the distinctive terroir of the Amandi subzone. The palate is vibrant and silky, offering juicy red berry fruit supported by fine, polished tannins and lively acidity. Medium-bodied and beautifully balanced, it delivers impressive concentration without feeling heavy, finishing long, fresh and wonderfully mineral.
