Spanish Christmas Food Gifts: A Buying Guide for Canada

A good Christmas food gift should feel as though you chose it for the person opening it. For the friend who loves to host, that might mean a generous tapas selection. For the keen cook, it could be three beautiful Spanish olive oils. For the person who has everything, there is always the reassuring possibility that they have not yet had enough jamón.

This guide brings together Spanish Christmas gift ideas available from our Toronto shop, with practical advice on choosing a budget, arranging delivery and deciding what belongs in the box. Start with the recipient and the occasion, then let the food do the rest.

Our quick recommendation: choose Tapas Tradicionales for a relaxed evening for two, La Familia for a small gathering, or Feliz Navidad for a generous festive tasting. For someone who enjoys cooking more than charcuterie, consider the Señoríos de Relleu olive-oil trio.

For two: give them an evening, as well as the food

Tapas Tradicionales makes a lovely gift for a couple who would appreciate a night off cooking. It brings together freshly carved Serrano ham, Ibérico salchichón, chorizo, Spanish green olives and crunchy picos. The selection is designed for two to share.

We suggest putting the olives in a small bowl, arranging the meats loosely on a board and leaving the picos within easy reach. A little music and an unhurried evening complete the present. Cheese is not included, so the recipient can enjoy the selection as it comes or choose an addition that suits them.

For the hosts: a tapas selection made for sharing

La Familia Tapas Selection is the natural step up for a gathering. Designed to serve four to six tapas-style, it combines Ibérico de Cebo and Serrano hams with chorizo, Ibérico salchichón, sardines, mussels, two kinds of olives and picos.

“Tapas-style” is the useful distinction: think of a sociable spread of small bites. If the hosts intend it to replace dinner, they can add bread, a salad or a cooked dish. For ideas, our guide to a tapas night at home is a useful companion to the gift.

For a generous festive thank-you: Feast or Feliz Navidad?

The Feast Box brings together bellota and cebo hams, charcuterie, La Curiosa sardines and mussels, Señoríos de Relleu olive oil, olives and two kinds of turrón. Choose it for someone who enjoys moving between a little ham, a tin of seafood and a sweet finish.

The Feliz Navidad Gift Box adds the pleasure of comparing three hams: Ibérico de Bellota, Ibérico de Cebo and Serrano. Its current selection also includes Ibérico charcuterie, Selección 1920 mussels, sardines, Cantabrian anchovies, Relleu olive oil, olives, Marcona almonds, turrón and almond polvorones.

Our suggestion is to choose Feast for a generous all-round spread and Feliz Navidad for someone who enjoys a broader tasting, especially the contrast between the three hams. Both give the recipient plenty to explore over more than one sitting.

For the cook: an olive-oil tasting

The Señoríos de Relleu La Familia GiftBox contains three 500ml extra virgin olive oils. It is a thoughtful choice when you want the gift to become part of someone's cooking, from finishing vegetables to dressing tomatoes and serving with good bread.

It also offers a route beyond a meat-and-seafood selection. If you are buying for someone with dietary requirements, check the actual ingredients and packaging rather than assuming a mixed hamper will suit them. A small, carefully chosen gift is much more enjoyable than a large one they cannot eat.

For a smaller gesture: biscuits and Spanish sweets

The Lady Joseph Christmas Biscuit Tin is easy to give and pleasing to keep after the biscuits have gone. The assortment includes chocolate-filled, cocoa and caramel biscuits, ready for a festive coffee break.

For a traditional Spanish sweet, try the El Artesano Alicante Turrón Torta. This round, crunchy almond nougat makes a lovely small gift or finishing touch to a larger selection. It contains almonds and egg; always check the pack for the complete allergen information. Read our Christmas food in Spain article for more festive inspiration.

Gift packaging and delivery: the details worth checking

Choose the Gift Box option where offered

For the tapas and festive selections above, the default packaging is a kraft box with a Spanish Pig sticker unless you select the Gift Box option. Gift boxes ship without an outer box, with the shipping label attached directly to the gift box. Keep this in mind if you plan to have it delivered to yourself and then present an unmarked box to someone else.

Check the contents before choosing a shipping method

Tapas Tradicionales, La Familia, Feast and Feliz Navidad are currently listed without cheese. Cheese can be added separately, but orders containing it require paid Urgent Shipping outside Toronto M postal codes. Removing cheese does not make every item suitable for storage at room temperature: follow each product's label, particularly for items such as anchovies and opened foods.

Delivery options, costs and estimates depend on the address and the contents of the basket. Check our shipping, delivery and pickup information and the available options at checkout. For a gift needed by a particular date, contact us before ordering. We do not give a blanket Christmas arrival promise.

Picking up in Toronto or ordering for clients?

You can choose pickup from our shop at 77 Roncesvalles Avenue, Toronto and collect once your order-ready notification arrives. For several client gifts, start with the number of recipients, your budget per gift, dietary requirements and delivery addresses. Contact Spanish Pig to discuss availability and practical arrangements.

Choose the gift they will enjoy opening

Start small for a first taste, choose a tapas selection for people who love sharing, or make the ham itself the occasion. If you are considering a more substantial jamón gift, our Spanish ham buying guide explains the difference between sliced, boneless and bone-in formats.
